Significantly higher silage maize harvest than last year
The silage maize harvest in Brandenburg has increased significantly again this year. The yield was 310.7 decitonnes per hectare, almost 45% above the previous year's yield, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office on Wednesday. In 2021, 370.1 decitons were achieved. This result was not achieved in 2023, but it was still the second-highest yield since 2017.
According to the data, a total of 5.2 million tons of maize were harvested this year, compared to 3.9 million tons last year. The slightly delayed harvest was compensated for by sufficient moisture and plenty of warmth in late summer. Cultivation took place on 166,00 hectares - 12,800 hectares less than in the previous year.
The increase in silage maize harvest can be attributed to the favorable agricultural conditions, leading to higher yields in agriculture. The Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office keeps track of these statistics to monitor agricultural trends over the years.
