- Significant increase observed in water and sewage utility costs

Residents of Baden-Württemberg are expected to shell out more for their water and sewage services. Expect a surge of approximately 6% in water and sewage consumption charges annually from 2023 to 2024, as revealed by the Statistical Office in Fellbach. Additionally, the basic water supply charge is poised to elevate by 10% within the same timeframe. Contrastingly, the inflation rate witnessed between January 2023 and January 2024 was a modest 3.2%.

The statistical analysts note that the hike in fees within various municipalities may vary significantly from the state average. In 2024, the average water charge across the state stands at 2.59 euros per cubic meter, marking a 15-cent increase compared to 2023. As for sewage fees, they're expected to climb to 2.24 euros per cubic meter, signifying a hike of 13 cents. This translates to an average consumption-based charge of 4.83 euros per cubic meter, or hardly 0.5 cents per liter of tap water.

Newsflash

The increase in water and sewage charges might encourage residents to conserve more water to offset the additional costs. Despite the water consumption charge increase by 10%, the price of a liter of tap water remains relatively low.
