Society - Significant increase in the number of funded family centers
The number of family centers supported by the state of Hessen has more than doubled in the past ten years. Recently, 227 such institutions were counted, while there were only 113 in 2014, as stated in a response from the Family Ministry in Wiesbaden to a small inquiry by the Green Party. The financial support has increased from initially 12,000 Euro per center per year to currently 18,000 Euro.
"This development should be continued. In doing so, the number of supported family centers should be successively expanded, taking into account the available budget resources," explained Family Minister Diana Stolz (CDU). In addition, further training and specialist conferences should also be financially supported.
Recently, it was announced that the state government is funding 16 new family centers this year. "Family centers in Hessen are important contact points, where parents and children receive comprehensive offers," explained Minister Stolz. "We support places where families can meet and consult. This also strengthens the common good." The 227 supported institutions are therefore located in cities, but also in rural regions. According to the information, there is at least one such institution in each district.
What characterizes a family center? According to the ministry, it is a place "where people of all generations can meet, exchange, consult and inform each other." In these institutions, there are various counseling, sports and creative offers. Furthermore, playgroups, crawler groups and information evenings on topics such as health, nutrition and media competence are offered.
