Significant increase in guest numbers in Saxony's youth hostels
After the corona-related losses, Saxony's youth hostels are on the upswing again. With around 346,000 overnight stays, the pre-corona level was almost reached last year, as the state association of the German Youth Hostel Association announced on request. This year, the aim is to exceed the result with around 365,000 overnight stays. This Saturday, the state association will meet for its general meeting at Colditz Castle Youth Hostel.
"Youth hostels in Saxony are a place for living hospitality. Tolerance, openness to the world, sustainability and appreciation are part of our basic understanding," emphasized Susan Graf, Chairwoman of the Board of the Saxony State Association.
Saxony's youth hostels are of great importance in the range of tourist offers, said Saxony's Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch. "They are located in the middle of nature, in former castles or even in national parks," emphasized the CDU politician. This is where the guests of tomorrow are inspired, who are important multipliers for building the image of the cultural travel destination among younger target groups.
The Saxony state association has 77,000 members and operates 23 youth hostels in the state, according to the ministry. Around 65 percent of overnight guests are children and young people - school trips, training camps, rehearsal weeks, camps and 21 percent families.
The resurgence of tourism in Saxony has significantly benefited youth hostels, leading to a near-return of pre-pandemic guest numbers. This year, the goal is to surpass last year's 346,000 overnight stays with an estimated 365,000, as youth hostels continue to attract visitors.
