- Significant blaze in Wunsiedel mainly subdued
Significant Blaze at an electronic component factory in Wunsiedel was largely contained throughout the night. A persistent hotspot at the heart of the premises continues to keep emergency services occupied over a day post the fire commencement, with intermittent small embers still smoldering, as reported by a police representative.
The Holenbrunn town center is now accessible, and bus services are operating as planned. Train services between Marktredwitz and Hof have also resumed, following a temporary halt due to train tracks neighboring the fire site.
State of Alert in Upper Franconia: Police probe factory blaze origin
The probe into the blaze's origin is ongoing. The police representative declined to disclose the cause of the fire the morning after, but confirmed investigations are underway. The exact extent of damage remains undetermined.
Early Tuesday, a blaze erupted in Holenbrunn's industrial sector, a district of Wunsiedel, keeping firefighters occupied for hours in extinguishing operations. Around 500 personnel were mobilized due to the major blaze. The district declared a state of alert to facilitate coordinated control of the task. The blaze hindered the first day of school for certain children in the area, leading to a brief suspension of bus services to Holenbrunn. As per Wunsiedel's district administrator Peter Berek (CSU), a single individual sustained minor smoke inhalation injuries.
The police are maintaining a presence near the factory to ensure the safety of the area. The investigation into the cause of the factory blaze is being led by the local police department.
