Police - Shots fired by police officers: mostly animals shot

Berlin police officers have fired their guns on duty more than 200 times this year. This is according to police statistics (as of November 24: 216 uses of firearms) sent by the Senate in response to a Left Party inquiry. On two occasions, police officers shot at people who were injured, in one case with a stun gun. In 177 cases, police officers killed an injured animal with one or more shots. 37 shootings fell under the category of "other use", with 18 cases of accidental discharges and 19 incidents that have not yet been assessed in more detail.
