Right-wing extremism - Shot through apartment door: Eight years in prison demanded
In the trial over a potentially fatal shot fired by a man through his neighbor's front door, the public prosecutor has demanded an eight-year prison sentence for the defendant. The 49-year-old was guilty of racially motivated attempted murder, said the public prosecutor in her plea before the Hamburg district court on Thursday. The verdict was to be handed down on Thursday.
The German had admitted the objective facts of the crime - the shot through the door of his Pakistani neighbor. According to the indictment, he shot at the closed door of his neighbor's apartment in Hamburg-Niendorf with a bolt-action rifle on May 27. No one was injured.
The subjective nature of the murder is based in particular on the cell phone analysis, which shows his absolutely racist attitude. The murder criterion of base motives was met because the defendant's motive was primarily his hatred of foreigners and not an alleged noise nuisance. Videos from the day of the crime had also made this very clear - in particular a video that had been taken less than half an hour before the crime. There, the accused had made racist remarks and then announced: "You're about to die".
The defense lawyer requested a sentence that did not exceed five years in prison. She explained that the defendant showed himself "from his worst possible side" in the recordings. The lawyer went on to say that he had not managed to convey properly during the trial that he wanted to get out of the right-wing corner. It was questionable whether there was intent to kill.
