A heavily intoxicated suspected shoplifter threatened a security guard with a scalpel in a supermarket in Schwerin. The guard, according to current investigations, had observed the suspect on Thursday putting groceries and alcoholic beverages into a backpack and then attempting to leave the checkout area without paying for them, as reported by the police.

When the security guard approached the 38-year-old, he pulled out a scalpel and threatened the supermarket employee. The guard was able to wrestle the surgical knife away from the suspected thief and detain him until the police arrived. The known-to-police man was arrested. A breathalyzer test showed a reading of 3.87 per mille. The Schwerin district court issued an arrest warrant on Friday.

The suspected shoplifter allegedly chose to hide his stolen goods in a backpack within the confines of the supermarket. Upon being confronted by the guard, he brandished the scalpel, causing a tense situation within the supermarket environment.
