Crime - Shock call: Offenders steal six-figure items

A 83-year-old woman from Wolfenbuttel gave valuable items worth six figures to swindlers following a shock phone call. According to police reports from last Saturday, the woman received a call from a supposed public prosecutor on a Friday. One of the woman's relatives was alleged to have caused a fatal traffic accident. For the release of her relative, the woman was told she had to pay a bail. Subsequently, the 83-year-old woman handed over valuable items worth six figures to a woman, the police stated. The perpetrators have not been apprehended yet.

The valuable items, stolen through deception, have significantly increased the complexity of the ongoing crime investigation in Lower Saxony. The woman's shock at receiving the fraudulent call from someone posing as a public prosecutor is still palpable in Wolfenbüttel. The police are urging residents to remain vigilant against such phone scams, as they continue their search for the perpetrators.
