Process - Sexual abuse of children: Revision requested

Following the conviction of a 49-year-old man from the Müritz region for sexual and serious sexual abuse of children, the defense has lodged an appeal. The Federal Court of Justice must now examine the legality of the verdict, said a spokesperson for the Neubrandenburg district court on Tuesday. The media had previously reported.

The man was sentenced to six years in prison last week. The defense had pleaded for acquittal, the court spokesman said.

According to earlier statements, the Neubrandenburg court had considered it proven that the man had sexually abused a friend of his son a dozen times and severely sexually abused him four times. The court was also convinced that the convicted man had sexually abused another boy once.

The boys were ten or eleven years old at the time of the offense or at the beginning of the period of the offense. The exact days of the offense could not be determined according to the testimony at the time. The public prosecutor's office had accused the man of abusing his son's friend more than 50 times between 2018 and 2021. He allegedly abused the other boy in July 2019.

Apart from the sentencing, the trial took place in camera. According to earlier statements by the court, the convicted man had not confessed.
