- Severe water surge alert issued for the North Sea shoreline and Elbe River area
The Coastal and Hydrological Administration (CHA) issues a storm surge warning for the Weser, Elbe areas, and the East and North Frisian coasts. This warning is active until 8:07 PM on Friday. The afternoon or evening high tide in the East Frisian coast, Weser, and Elbe regions is predicted to be 1 to 1.5 meters higher than the usual high tide. Along the North Frisian coast and in the Hamburg Elbe region, the water level will rise 1.5 to 2 meters above the typical high tide.
Through the Katwarn alert system, the Hamburg Police Situation Center advised of 1.25 to 1.75 meters above average high tide at the St. Pauli gauge, potentially leading to the flooding of Hamburg's Fish Market. The police advised inhabitants of low-lying regions, particularly those residing near the harbor, Hafencity, and Elbe area, to evacuate. They also urged individuals to relocate their parked vehicles from these zones.
The storm surge warning could result in floods in certain areas, particularly near the Hamburg Elbe region. The high tide predictions might lead to flooding of the Hamburg Fish Market, as stated by the Katwarn alert system.
