Blocking - Several hundred tractors expected at farmers' demo

Traffic disruptions are expected in Berlin due to a protest by farmers. The first tractors of the demonstration gathered on Straße des 17. Juni in Tiergarten on Monday morning, according to the traffic information center on the platform X (formerly Twitter). The road was already closed in both directions. Overall, there will be traffic restrictions on Straße des 17. Juni between Großer Stern and Brandenburger Tor from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm due to the demonstration with several hundred expected tractors. According to the traffic information center, a rally of tractors to the Brandenburg Gate was also planned.

Around 3,000 people were registered with the police for the demonstration. The German Farmers' Association expected several hundred of them to come to the capital with tractors, some of which had already been at the Brandenburg Gate all night, it said. The German Farmers' Association is demanding that the government withdraw its plans to abolish regulations on agricultural diesel and vehicle tax exemptions in order to save money in the federal budget.
