Traffic - Several black ice accidents in Bavaria - situation improving

The icy roads caused a number of accidents in Bavaria early on Wednesday morning. On the federal highway 308 near Lindenberg (Lindau district), four vehicles skidded and overturned. The Swabia South/West Police Headquarters cited inappropriate speed as the cause. One person was slightly injured, said a spokesperson in Kempten. Near Vilseck in the Upper Palatinate, there was a wildlife accident involving a vehicle that was rear-ended by three other cars on a slippery road. In other parts of Bavaria, the police also reported individual icy accidents, but according to the information provided, these mostly resulted in material damage.

For Wednesday morning, the German Weather Service (DWD) had issued another severe weather warning for black ice, especially for south-eastern Bavaria, but this was to be lifted in the course of the morning. Unlike the chaos at the weekend, the current icy conditions are not unusual, according to meteorologists. This actually happens every winter, said a DWD expert. After the masses of snow at the weekend, the weather forecast for the coming days is helping to ease the situation. In the night to Thursday, it is expected to snow a little in some places, especially in the Alps. After that, it will continue to be unstable and increasingly mild.
