Rail traffic - Seven weeks of rail line closures: Essen and Dortmund
At the beginning of next year, the railroad line between Essen and Dortmund will be closed for seven weeks due to construction work. As announced by Deutsche Bahn on Wednesday, tracks, points and overhead lines on the route are to be renewed from January 5 to February 23, 2024.
Trains on the RE1 and RE6 lines operated by the private rail company National Express will be affected. These will be rerouted between Dortmund and Essen and will stop in Gelsenkirchen and Herne instead. The RE16, RB40 and S1 lines will be replaced by buses. There will also be detour for long-distance services, so the stops in Bochum will be canceled.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the construction work will cost 4.3 million euros.
