Space - Seven asteroids bear names from Saxony-Anhalt
Overall, seven Asteroids currently bear names of communities in Saxony-Anhalt. These include Magdeburg, Sommersdorf, Wittenberg, Mansfeld, Sangerhausen, Eisleben, and Petersberg, as the Statistical State Office announced in a post on social media. The data comes from the Minor Planet Center (MPC) in the USA, which was founded by NASA. Currently, approximately 25,000 objects are listed with names at the MPC. In general, discoverers of Asteroids have the right to propose a name, which, however, must be officially approved by the MPC.
