Bundesliga 2 - Setback for Hannover: Late goal conceded while short-handed
After conceding a late goal while short-handed, Hannover 96 have lost touch with the promotion places in the 2nd Bundesliga for the time being. The club from Lower Saxony lost 1-0 (0-0) at SC Paderborn on Sunday, as former 96 professional Florent Muslija scored for the hosts in stoppage time (90.+1).
The East Westphalians thus remain a fearful opponent for Hannover, who had to make do with ten players for a long time because Louis Schaub had already been shown the red card in the 20th minute after a foul. Paderborn pressed for the winning goal in superior numbers, but missed many chances. It was only in stoppage time that a cross from Muslija sailed past all the players in the penalty area and into the 96-goal.
The home side already had a good double chance in the second minute through Ilyas Ansah and Kai Klefisch in front of 11,950 spectators, and Muslija (47) and Sebastian Klaas (65) missed further great chances after the break. However, Hannover put up a good fight and fought back to avoid defeat.
After Schaub was sent off for fouling Marcel Hoffmeier on the touchline and was shown the red card following an appeal by the video referee, the visitors spent almost the entire match deep in their own half and only managed to relieve pressure with occasional counter-attacks. After conceding the goal, substitute Nicolo Tresoldi almost scored the equalizer.
