Champions League - Setback for Eintracht women in the premier class

Eintracht Frankfurt's women's soccer team have suffered a setback in their battle to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Bundesliga third-placed team lost 0:1 (0:0) at Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday and slipped to third place in Group A with three points behind their Portuguese rivals (6) and leaders FC Barcelona (9).

Marie Alidou scored the winning goal in the 71st minute for the Portuguese champions, who dominated the game for long periods. The goal was preceded by a careless loss of possession by Frankfurt captain Tanja Pawollek in midfield. Eintracht were too passive overall and were barely able to create any chances. On the contrary, goalkeeper Stina Johannes saved the Hessians from a heavier defeat with several saves.

The team from Frankfurt will have the opportunity to take revenge in front of their home crowd next Thursday. However, coach Niko Arnautis' team will then be under pressure to win in order to maintain their chances of progressing.
