Set-up for Christmas markets in MV: Stralsund already started
One week before the start of the Christmas market in Rostock, the construction work is in full swing. By Monday, attractions such as the Ferris wheel and the large Christmas pyramid on the Neuer Markt had already been erected. The 15-metre-high giant tree, which is to decorate the market as a Christmas tree, had already been erected at Kröpeliner Tor last week. According to the organizers, the Rostock Christmas market is the largest in northern Germany.
The attractions in Rostock traditionally open after the Sunday of the Dead, this year on November 27. The Christmas markets in Schwerin and Wismar also plan to open their stalls then. The Greifswald Christmas market starts on November 30.
In Stralsund, on the other hand, the hustle and bustle of the market has been brought forward a little this year: A so-called winter market has been open in the city center since Monday (November 20). After a day of rest on the Sunday of the dead, the Christmas market will continue on November 27, as announced by the city. This gives the showmen in Stralsund an extra week in the short pre-Christmas period. This year, the fourth Advent and Christmas Eve coincide.
The Customs officials in Stralsund have already started checking export and import goods at the winter market, ensuring compliance with regulations. Despite the early start, the fixed closing date for the Stralsund Christmas market is still December 23.
