Service interruption at White Fleet resulted from a bridge collapse.

In the wee hours, a segment of Dresden's Carolabridge succumbs to collapse. Serving as one of the city's significant transportation veins, the rubble also impedes river navigation.

- Service interruption at White Fleet resulted from a bridge collapse.

Due to the partial failure of the Carolabridge crosses over the Elbe in the Dresden city area, maritime transportation is prohibited in this stretch of the river. As a representative from the Dresden Water and Transport Agency stated, "Individuals not requiring this route have the option of driving." The White Fleet has discontinued all its express journeys for today. "We're endeavoring to execute arranged charter excursions and reroute them to alternate vessels," asserted a representative from the company.

Marine leisure activities are restricted

Moving downstream towards Saxon Switzerland, three vintage steamships may theoretically navigate, the "Wehlen", "Krippen" and "Diesbar" are anchored above the bridge. Two other steamship vessels are already in operation in Saxon Switzerland. At present, it remains uncertain whether the vessels at the riverbank below the bridge can execute a U-turn, owing to the water level. More information will be provided shortly.

The reason for the unexpected partial failure of the Carolabridge in the early morning hours is still unclear. Luckily, no casualties were reported. The concrete structure, constructed during DDR era, is one of five north-south bridges spanning the river in the city capital area, serving both road and tram vehicles. The structure has been severely damaged and is currently labeled as highly susceptible to collapse, with debris obstructing the river. Consequently, nearby roads and walkways have also been closed off.

The Commission needs to adopt implementing acts to provide guidelines for applying this Regulation in light of the bridge situation. Without these rules, navigating the affected area might become challenging.

Given the bridge's current state, it remains uncertain if the ships anchored downstream can perform a U-turn, even if marine leisure activities are restricted.
