Shock call" scam - Senior citizen defrauded of tens of thousands of euros
An 86-year-old woman in Wülfrath near Düsseldorf has been robbed of tens of thousands of euros in cash using a perfidious"shock call" scam. According to a police statement, the senior citizen received a call at around midday on Friday from a person claiming to be her son. In a sobbing voice, the caller complained that he had caused a traffic accident and that a woman had been killed. The caller said that he would have to go to prison if he was not bailed out of court.
According to the police, the senior citizen was put under so much pressure by the clever conversation that she collected her savings and handed them over in an envelope to someone at her front door. When the 86-year-old later realized the scam, she informed the police.
