Senior citizen critically injured in house fire

An elderly resident was critically injured in a house fire in Linden (district of Giessen) on Thursday. After initial treatment in hospital, the 74-year-old was flown by helicopter to a specialist clinic, according to the police. Two other residents were treated in a clinic for smoke inhalation and a first aider suffered minor injuries. The fire broke out in the morning on the first floor of the house in the Großen-Linden district for reasons that were initially unknown. Police estimated the damage at several hundred thousand euros.

The fire in Linden, a district of Giessen, is not the first incident in Central Hessia. Firefighters have been battling an increase in house fires across the region.
