An 84-year-old woman has died as a result of a fire in her apartment in Erfurt. The woman fled from the fire into the stairwell on Sunday afternoon, according to a police spokesperson. According to the statement, residents of the apartment building found the woman burning there. They immediately tried to help her and extinguished the fire with a blanket. However, the woman died on the spot. According to the police, a piece of rattan furniture in the apartment had caught fire for an initially unexplained reason. The fire had spread to the woman's clothes.
