Senator and doctors advise vaccinations
Social welfare authorities and medical representatives are calling on the people of Hamburg to get vaccinated against flu and coronavirus in line with the recommendations. Social Affairs Senator Melanie Schlotzhauer (SPD) and the President of the Hamburg Medical Association, Pedram Emami, pointed out on Monday that the flu vaccination is particularly recommended for people aged 60 and over or with pre-existing conditions. "Compared to a cold (flu-like infection), the "real" flu (influenza) is a serious respiratory disease that can also be fatal if feared complications such as pneumonia occur," they said in a joint statement.
The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) also recommends the flu vaccination for pregnant women from the second trimester of pregnancy and for people with an increased risk of infection, according to the social authority. "The influenza vaccination can also be administered at the same time as a Covid booster vaccination," it said. "If necessary, vaccination protection against other respiratory infections that can be prevented by vaccination, such as pneumococci and whooping cough, should also be refreshed."
Vaccinations are crucial in fighting both flu and coronavirus, as highlighted by Senator Melanie Schlotzhauer and Pedram Emami from the Science of Medicine. Unvaccinated individuals, especially those with pre-existing health conditions, are more vulnerable to severe diseases like flu, which can lead to complications such as pneumonia and even be fatal.
