Health - Senate supports center for behavioral addiction
The need for consultation and support services for addictive behavior related to internet use, as assessed by the Berlin Senate Health Administration, is increasing. In the past five years, specialized projects of Caritas Berlin have seen a significant increase in inquiries regarding internet addiction in relation to gaming, streaming, social media, pornography, and online shopping, as the health administration announced on a Wednesday. Caritas has therefore bundled its offers under the roof of a Center for Behavioral Addiction.
At various locations such as Café Beispiellos (Steglitz-Zehlendorf), consultation offers are available for issues such as computer and internet addiction or excessive gambling and media consumption behavior. They reportedly provide a wide range of help for those seeking advice and their families, including individual, couple, and group counseling or leisure and aftercare groups.
The Center for Behavioral Addiction is supported by the Health and Education Administrations. "It is my concern to prevent addiction developments as early as possible or to accompany already ill people well on their way of dealing with their illness," said Health Senator Ina Czyborra. "That's why we are promoting the city-wide special offers of the Caritas Association for behavioral addictions."
