Housing regulations. - Senate introduces the "Accelerated Construction Act"

Berlin's housing construction and other projects need to speed up. During a meeting on Tuesday, the Senate discussed a draft law aimed at quicker construction projects. Berlin's Building Senator, Christian Gäbler from the SPD, explained that this law has multiple measures to fast-track, particularly in the housing sector - a process that usually takes years.

These measures include simplifying and standardizing planning and approval procedures, setting deadlines, and defining responsibilities between state and district levels. State-level authorities should have greater influence on certain affairs.

Furthermore, the new regulations aim to give developers more accurate forecasts about when they can expect a building permit, helping them make better plans. To achieve this, all involved parties should collaborate early on and remove potential roadblocks. Digitalization also falls in the plans.

However, nature conservation groups have expressed concern about jeopardizing nature and animal protection to speed up the process. The Greens have also criticized the law, which they expect to be enforced by the end of this year.
