Bundesliga 2 - Selimbegovic is the new Rostock coach
Second-division soccer club Hansa Rostock has hired Mersad Selimbegovic as its new coach. The club confirmed this on Monday. The "Ostsee-Zeitung" had previously reported the news. The long-time youth and head coach of Jahn Regensburg is to save the 16th-placed team from relegation to the 3rd division. His contract in Rostock runs until 2025, but is only valid in the 2nd Bundesliga.
The 41-year-old Selimbegovic is already the fourth coach in Rostock in just 14 months. He succeeds Alois Schwartz, who was released last week after the home defeat against Schalke 04. Before Schwartz, Patrick Glöckner and Jens Härtel had to leave prematurely last season.
In the current season, FC Hansa are only three points clear of a direct relegation place despite having a good star. Selimbegovic was a successful head coach in Regensburg for three years. Last season, however, he had to leave three match days before the end after a 2-0 loss in Rostock, of all places, because relegation was almost inevitable.
