Selenskyj arrives to honor the Allied invasion in Normandy.

During the upcoming commemorations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron. It's likely that Macron will announce extra military support for Ukraine during this encounter. Additionally, a meeting between Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden is scheduled.

This year's commemorations are being held amid the backdrop of the ongoing Ukraine war. Many political leaders and heads of state ties the historical occurrence to the current Russian aggression against Ukraine. Notably, Russia is not invited to participate in the celebrations.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized the significance of these values fighting for: freedom, democracy, and justice. He added, "Democracy is still under threat today [...] from attackers who want to redraw borders," referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin.
