Hildesheim Regional Court - Security proceedings against crossbowmen from Peine begin

Almost six months after the crime, the suspected crossbow shooter from Peine has to stand trial. On Wednesday (from 9.00 a.m.), the security proceedings will begin at Hildesheim District Court. The public prosecutor's office has applied for the 29-year-old to be permanently placed in a psychiatric hospital "due to his continued dangerousness", the Hildesheim district court announced. The German had confessed to the crime but, according to the public prosecutor's office, referred to his mental health problems.

According to the preliminary opinion of a psychiatric expert, the man is said to have acted in a state of incapacity. According to the report, he is said to have been unable to realize that he was acting wrongly due to paranoid schizophrenia. He is said to have heard voices telling him to kill people. According to earlier reports, the alleged perpetrator was already in a psychiatric hospital for the time being.

The 29-year-old is said to have shot another man in the back with a crossbow at Peine central station on June 17 - at the time he is said to have heard voices due to illness. The victim ran away and screamed for help, the district court announced. The accused is said to have chased him and put another arrow in the crossbow. At the cab ranks in front of the station, he is said to have aimed the crossbow at the head of another man at close range.

The latter knocked the weapon aside with his fist. The 29-year-old then followed the first victim again, caught up with him and threatened him - but did not shoot. The injured man informed the police at the ticket office and the 29-year-old was arrested shortly afterwards outside the station.

On the day of the crime, the police received several emergency calls. "Someone is shooting around here", said one caller, according to a police spokesperson. Three further hearings are planned in the case.
