Security guard injured in front of asylum accommodation: Two arrests

Two residents of an asylum shelter in Regensburg have been arrested for attempted murder. The two had thrown heavy objects at a security guard at the accommodation during an argument, as the police reported on Friday. The 43-year-old was moderately injured.

In the incident on Wednesday evening, the security service had refused an 18-year-old resident access to the accommodation because, according to the police, the Tunisian wanted to take alcohol into the accommodation. An argument ensued, during which the 18-year-old is said to have attacked the employee. Both were injured.

According to reports, a 30-year-old Tunisian man, who had not been involved until then, then joined them. The latter is said to have thrown an object weighing several kilos at the security guard. The 18-year-old then allegedly threw something as well.

The two residents were brought before the investigating judge on Thursday. He issued remand warrants.

The incident of violence against a security guard at the asylum shelter in Regensburg, resulting in arrests, has raised concerns about crime in the OBERPFALZ region. Authorities are now investigating if this incident is a sign of a larger pattern of criminal activity in the area.
