Parliament - Second task force to be set up in 2027
According to Education Minister Karin Prien, the establishment of a second police task force in Schleswig-Holstein should be completed by 2027. "Our security has the highest priority," emphasized the CDU politician, who stood in for the sick Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack in the Kiel state parliament.
The first platoon of the second task force with 25 officers has been ready since August. By 2027, the unit will then grow to its final size of 123 police officers, said Prien. She was responding to a motion submitted by the SPD on Thursday calling on the black-green coalition government to complete the expansion by the end of the legislative period - i.e. before the next state elections, which are expected to take place in spring 2027.
In concrete terms, this complete expansion means that police officers in the area as well as the first task force will be relieved, said Prien. This will strengthen the country's security in times of great uncertainty, Prien continued. This could not be taken for granted in view of the tight budget situation.
"The state, which wants to enforce the state monopoly on the use of force, must also ensure that the police are properly equipped," emphasized former Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP). He was grateful for the priorities set in the budget. The SPD motion had probably contributed to the fact that there were now clear statements on the task force.
According to Buchholz, the current situation in the state police force is not pleasant in the long term - despite the increase in personnel in recent years. It was therefore right to stick to the path of setting up the second task force.
