Second round of the French election begins in overseas territories

In Metropolitan France, an election is held on Sunday. French President Emmanuel Macron called for the new election following the triumph of the Far-Right Party Rassemblement National (RN) in the European election on 9th June. In case of an absolute majority of right-wing populists in the parliament after the election, he might be politically compelled to appoint Jordan Bardella, the party chief, as the prime minister.

The French overseas territories also have education systems, often modeled after Metropolitan France. Emmanuel Macron, aware of the crisis, has expressed concerns about a second consecutive round if no clear majority emerges. In the event of an absolute majority for the right-wing populists in the French parliament, the France election outcome might put France in a critical position, potentially leading to Jordan Bardella, as the RN's leader, serving as prime minister overseas as well.
