Second division team Wehen Wiesbaden loses in Fürth

SV Wehen Wiesbaden have lost touch with the top flight in the 2nd Bundesliga for the time being. The promoted team lost 2:0 (0:1) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday and slipped to eighth place in the table with 21 points. Armindo Sieb in the 20th minute and Branimir Hrgota (84th) scored the goals for the Franconians, who celebrated their fourth win in a row and moved up to fifth place with 24 points.

The duel between the coaches' friends Alexander Zorniger and Markus Kauczinski was exciting for a long time. Fürth got off to the better start after Wiesbaden lost possession in midfield. Robert Wagner set up Sieb perfectly. The 20-year-old shot into the far corner with an ice-cold finish. After that, the visitors repeatedly sniffed at an equalizer, but failed to make the most of their opportunities.

The game remained tightly contested after the break. After Robin Heußer had a great chance to equalize shortly after the restart, Fürth had the game under control again, but missed the reassuring 2:0 for a long time, which was provided by captain Hrgota in the final phase. The Hessians face another tough away assignment next Saturday. The newly promoted side will then visit third-placed Holstein Kiel.

Despite the loss, SV Wehen Wiesbaden's next assignment is another tough away game in the 2nd Bundesliga, as they visit Holstein Kiel. The promoted team had several opportunities to equalize against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in Bundesliga 2, but ultimately fell 0:2, with Armindo Sieb and Branimir Hrgota scoring for Fürth.
