Bundesliga 2 - Second division club Fürth extends contract with Green

SpVgg Greuther Fürth have extended Julian Green 's contract by two years. The midfielder signed a new contract with the Franconian second-division soccer club until June 2026 - his previous contract would have expired at the end of the season. "Julian is a very important pillar in our team structure and an absolute key player," said Fürth's sporting director Rachid Azzouzi in a statement on Monday. "It's something very special these days when a player of this quality plays for our club for so many years and shows enormous mutual appreciation."

Green, who trained as a youth player at FC Bayern, joined Fürth in the summer of 2017 and has played 182 competitive matches for the club since then, scoring 33 goals. Among other things, the American-born player's goals ensured that the club was not relegated from the 2nd division in 2018 and was promoted to the Bundesliga three years later.

Green started all 16 of his appearances in the first half of the season, which Fürth finished in fifth place - he only missed one match due to a yellow-red suspension. "Ju is an extremely important player for us. He was already at a very high level before, but I think he has developed even further this year," said coach Alexander Zorniger.

"I feel that the club, the people in charge and everyone here really appreciate and trust me. That's why it wasn't a difficult decision for me to continue the six-and-a-half years I've had so far," the professional was quoted as saying in the press release.
