Because a police officer also worked as a car dealer in his free time, he has now lost his civil servant job. The man from the northern Rhineland-Palatinate is said to have continued his side business even during times when he was unable to work as a policeman, as the Administrative Court of Trier announced in a judgment on July 18. He was dismissed from his position with the judgment.
With his private car dealership, he generated sales of several hundred thousand Euros per year, with a peak of up to two million Euros. The side business was not authorized. The policeman is said to have also used his official phone number for the side job.
The court was convinced that the man had violated his duty of obedience and loyalty. He had used his position as a police officer for personal purposes and had consciously bypassed the prohibition on side businesses for several years. An appeal against the decision can be lodged at the Higher Administrative Court of Rhineland-Palatinate within one month.
