Crime - Searches for human trafficking: Berlin, NRW, Saxony

Police have searched several properties in Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony due to investigations into suspected human trafficking. The operation took place on Wednesday morning, as the police announced on Thursday. The investigations are directed against a 45-year-old man and eight women aged between 26 and 49 from Nigeria. They are accused of smuggling foreigners into the country on a commercial and gang basis in connection with human trafficking.

According to the police, the suspects are said to have lured at least six Nigerian women to Berlin with the prospect of a job. There, they allegedly obtained identity documents from women living legally in Germany for a fee and forced the women into prostitution. The victims are said to have promised in a voodoo ritual that they would pay off the trafficking costs in the five-figure range.

According to the police, investigators found several cell phones, documents and cash in the five-figure range during the searches.
