- Search for two missing in the Rhine continues
The search for the two people missing in the Rhine at Hohentengen (Waldshut district) will continue today. The water police will use boats and possibly sonar devices to search for the 15-year-old and 29-year-old, a police spokesperson said. The search is planned to continue until evening, as long as possible. However, a diving operation is less likely due to the strong current.
The teenager and the woman, both non-swimmers according to police, went into the Rhine on Sunday evening and have been missing since. Along with four others, they had ventured too far into the water, lost their footing, and were swept away by the current. Family members who rushed to help reportedly rescued four of the six people from the water. Two of the rescued were given medical treatment.
Since then, rescue teams have been searching daily for the two missing persons, including cross-border efforts. According to the police, divers, two rescue helicopters, and a drone have been deployed.
The police spokesperson requested for additional resources, including divers, to aid in the search due to the challenging conditions. Despite the strong current, the police continued their efforts to locate the missing individuals using boats and sonar devices.
