Inundation engulfs area. - Search for Missing Firefighter Continues by Emergency Services
Search teams attempted to reach the location where a capsized boat was seen with a firefighter onboard, but didn't manage to do so. The incident occurred near Offingen along the border with Baden-Württemberg, involving a vessel from the DLRG water rescue. The other four members onboard were fortunately able to safely reach land. The 22-year-old firefighter has been missing since Sunday night.
The location where the boat is, proves difficult to access. In an interview, a police spokesperson from Schwaben Süd/West explained that the area is strewn with debris, making it hard for smaller boats to navigate through it. Combined with the swollen ground and the presence of trees that obstruct the air route, it becomes challenging to reach the spot on foot. Despite these challenges, the rescuers are still hopeful to locate the missing 22-year-old. They are considering consulting on a boat search.
There's a glimmer of hope in the situation as well, as a 32-year-old woman was successfully rescued after spending two and a half days in the flood-filled Silver Forest near Neu-Ulm. She had taken refuge there before the flood began and was eventually found and airlifted to a hospital using a drone on Tuesday.
