Hospitals - Search for Mainz University Medical Center board member restarts

The position of Scientific Director of the Mainz University Medical Center will be advertised at the beginning of next year. A management consultancy is also to provide support, as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board and State Secretary in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science, Denis Alt (SPD), announced in Mainz on Tuesday. The post had already been advertised once before, but the candidate Thomas Kamradt from Jena surprisingly turned it down.

The Scientific Director is one of four positions on the Executive Board of the University Medical Center Mainz and, according to previous plans, should have been found by April 1 at the latest. The new advertisement could delay this.

The Executive Board of the largest hospital in Rhineland-Palatinate was almost completely replaced within a few months. On January 1, 2024, Ralf Kiesslich will take over from Norbert Pfeiffer as the new Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the Management Board. Waltraud Kreutz-Gers, who was previously Chancellor of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, has been the new Chief Commercial Officer since November 1. The contract of Chief Nursing Officer Marion Hahn was extended until the end of January 2025.

The Executive Board of Unimedizin manages the hospital's business independently. In addition to the Scientific Board, it includes the Commercial Board, the Nursing Board and the Chairman of the Board, who is also the Medical Board. Unimedizin had recently made headlines with numerous internal conflicts, with deep disagreements between the former Commercial Board and the heads of individual clinics under the umbrella of Unimedizin.
