Seamen's missions launch Christmas campaign for seafarers
Under the motto "Christmas in the Box", the Seamen's Missions in Hamburg are once again launching their Christmas campaign for seafarers. Anyone can be a Secret Santa or Santa Claus and bring joy to seafarers. "Seafarers have a very special burden to bear when they can't be with their family at Christmas," said Jörn Hille, head of the "Duckdalben" seamen's club. It's a win-win situation for both sides: "It's fun for those on land to simply do something good and pack a present for seafarers. And the seafarers enjoy unwrapping it. And it shows that someone is thinking of them on these days."
For the campaign, standard shoe boxes were to be transformed into a gift box. But any other - packaged - gift in a transportable size will also be collected by the seafarers' missions to be brought on board container ships, tugboats, tankers and harbor dredgers during the holidays. Clothing such as socks, hats, gloves, sweets, hygiene articles such as deodorant, shower gel, shampoo and toothpaste are in demand. Plus a Christmas greeting, preferably in English, and Christmas decorations. The gift boxes can be handed in at the Hamburg Seamen's Missions until December 23.
Seafarers who are spending their holidays aboard ships will appreciate the thoughtful gifts collected during the Seamen's Missions' Christmas campaign. Despite being unable to celebrate with their families, they can still receive delightful parcels containing items like socks, hats, gloves, and hygiene products, along with a Christmas greeting, thanks to the shipping of these care packages.
