MV summer party - Schwesig wants peace and democracy for Ukraine

Minister-President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) thanked Democracy and Freedom in Germany at the summer festival of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landesvertretung in Berlin, and also reminded of the war in Ukraine. She wished the same for the people there: "To live in Peace, Freedom and Democracy." Regarding Ukraine, she added, "It is a bitter reality that Russia shoots at children and families every day." She knew that she was saying something that many people in our country see differently and sometimes don't want to hear.

Approximately 1000 guests from politics, economy and society came to the Landesvertretung on Monday for the summer festival - among them political prominence such as SPD chair Saskia Esken and the Ukrainian ambassador, Oleksij Makejew.

Schwesig emphasizes unity

The Minister-President understands the great concerns that many people have due to the ongoing international conflicts. This also moves politics. However, it is also important to work on the strength of Germany and the federal states, to offer economic stability, create jobs, enable good incomes for people, and strengthen social cohesion. In times of crisis, one must join forces and try to solve the problems together. This applies to politics, but also to civil society, economy, science, culture, and sports.

Schwesig also advocated for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a "popular tourist destination, a land of renewable energies, but also a land where one can invest, work, and live well." She is proud that the federal state managed to achieve the highest economic growth in Germany last year. In this year, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern holds the presidency of the Bundesrat and will host the central celebration of German Unity in October.

Caspar David Friedrich and Toni Kroos

"Men are in the spotlight today," said Schwesig and referred to the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich, which is being celebrated in Greifswald and throughout the country. She was particularly proud of the players of the German football team. "One of them is Toni Kroos, a native of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern," said the Minister-President. She hoped to see Kroos and the team until the end of the European championship. The Minister-President did not only give a speech - she also distributed beer from the tap at the Zapfhahn.
