On Saturday in Schwerin, Minister President Manuela Schwesig presented 36 citizens of the state with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern badge of honor and a certificate for their special services in voluntary work. "Volunteering takes time and energy. Volunteering doesn't just let you go," said the SPD politician according to the press release. "Without the understanding of the family, without support at home, none of this would be possible." This should be recognized.

According to the information, 600,000 people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are active as volunteers. They are involved in areas such as culture, sport, politics and rescue services. "The work that all volunteers do so honorably is essential for our state. It is an important foundation of our democracy," said Schwesig. Volunteering also gives you a lot in return. "It is meaningful, fun and provides new experiences."

According to the state government, volunteering is of great importance. For this reason, the state's volunteering foundation will be able to award one million euros in funding on a permanent basis in future. "We want to decide this with the 2024/25 state budget," said the Minister President. In addition, the volunteer card is to be continued.
