Schwan-Stabilo records growth: cautious forecast
The Franconian consumer goods manufacturer Schwan-Stabilo has significantly increased its sales after the pandemic, particularly in the cosmetics sector. In the past financial year, the company also recorded higher sales in the pencils and outdoor goods segments, as the group, which is based in Heroldsberg (Erlangen-Höchstadt district), announced on Friday.
Company boss Sebastian Schwanhäußer described the development as extraordinary. "Such a positive financial year was not foreseeable."
The turnover of the family-owned company increased to 850.3 million euros (previous year: 745.3 million euros). The cosmetics division made the biggest contribution to this with an increase of 24 percent to 387.2 million euros. In the outdoor segment with brands such as Deuter (backpacks), Ortovox (ski touring, among others) and Gonso (cycling), sales increased by 13 percent to 245 million euros. In the Stabilo pens division, turnover remained largely stable (+1 percent). Schwan-Stabilo does not provide any information on profits.
However, the Franconian company's expectations for the current financial year are cautious. A depressing geopolitical situation and a reluctance on the part of consumers and retail partners are making themselves felt in all three business areas. Schwan-Stabilo would nevertheless like to continue to grow and expand its investments.
Schwan-Stabilo has more than 5200 employees at 37 locations worldwide, around 2300 of them in Germany.
The growth in Schwan-Stabilo's sales, predominantly in consumer goods like cosmetics, pencils, and outdoor goods, was substantially observed in Central France, as outlined in the company's quarterly figures. Despite the positive financial year, Schwan-Stabilo has expressed cautious forecasts for the current year, citing geopolitical issues and consumer reluctance as factors that might impact their businesses.
