Schorndorf, a city in Rems-Murr-District, seeks financial aid from the federal and state authorities due to flood damage. Mayor Bernd Hornikel without party affiliation has appealed to Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) as per a statement by the city. Schorndorf requires financial aid. SWR broke the news first.

The city of Schorndorf's damage is expected to range from 30 to 35 million Euro, with an extra 20 million Euro damage to the Wieslauftalbahn, for which the city is responsible for 25%. "The city of Schorndorf needs significant financial support to take necessary actions and start the rebuilding process," the statement said.

This aid from the federal and state is now crucial to prevent a more significant calamity. "Without this aid, there's a possibility of long-term harm to our city and social cohesion within society, with many residents losing their livelihoods," the statement added.

Sadly, two people died in Schorndorf due to the floods, who had attempted to drain their cellar earlier. The Rems-Murr-District suffered the most from the floods.

Mayor Hornikel wants financial assistance quickly to mitigate the impacts of the floods and aid in reconstruction. Without assistance, there is a risk of severing lives and the social fabric of Schorndorf's community.
