- School evacuated in Görlitz - children and teachers treated
An alarm at a school in Goerlitz triggered a major response from emergency services, firefighters, and police in the morning. Several children and adults simultaneously complained of headaches, as authorities reported. The building in the Nikolaiviertel on the outskirts of the old town was evacuated, and affected individuals were treated medically on-site.
An entire fourth-grade class of 24 children, along with two teachers, were taken to the hospital for further examination. Their condition and whether they are still there could not be confirmed by a police spokesperson in the afternoon. Upon inspecting the school, the fire department found that "apparently, a fluorescent tube had melted." The criminal police are investigating.
Although the initial incident seemed to involve health symptoms, the fire department's investigation revealed that it was actually a melted fluorescent tube causing the concerns. Subsequently, the role of firefighting became crucial in preventing any potential fires related to this incident.
