Scholz stresses the need for ceasefire agreements in telephone conversation with Netanyahu

It is now time to finalize the agreement for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Scholz said. Israel has achieved many military targets in its fight against Hamas, but at the same time, the number of civilian casualties and human suffering in the Gaza Strip is "enormous".

In his conversation with Netanyahu, Scholz again warned of the "danger of a regional wildfire" in the Middle East, given Iran's and its allies' threats against Israel. Now more than ever, it is crucial to "break the destructive cycle of retaliation, reduce tensions, and actively work towards de-escalation".**

For months, Qatar, Egypt, and the USA have been negotiating to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of the hostages still being held there. Recently, however, the conflict in the Middle East has significantly escalated. According to Netanyahu's office, Israel has agreed to continue the negotiations in the coming week.

The international community, including Qatar, Egypt, and the USA, are actively pushing for the implementation of the agreed upon ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. With the current state of escalation, upholding the ceasefire becomes increasingly essential to prevent further loss of life and suffering.
