Scholz meets with Hungary's Prime Minister Orban.

For years, right-wing populist Prime Minister Orban has faced criticism over his actions weakening democracy within Hungary. The nation has clashed with Brussels on various topics, like migration policy and alliances with Russia and support for Ukraine. There are worries that during Hungary's EU presidency, Orban might try to delay progress, such as Ukraine's integration into the bloc.

Buchner, a government spokesperson, expressed optimism about the Hungarian EU presidency fostering "a better, more cooperative relationship." Orban's upcoming trip to Berlin doesn't involve a press conference. On Wednesday, a friendly soccer match between Germany and Hungary will be held in Stuttgart as part of the European Championship.
