- Scholz delivers an address at the Stoppelmarket
Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz graces the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta. The SPD leader is planned to deliver the main speech at the daily welcome event of the city this Monday at 11:00 AM. Scholz marks the first federal chancellor to deliver this speech, according to city officials.
Mayor Kristian Kater invited his party colleague to Vechta in the springtime. The chancellor's confirmation serves as the highest honor for the fairground organizers, locals, and the market, Kater explained.
Berlin's political elite was present at the folk festival's launch last Thursday: Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir participated as the honorary guest in the opening parade. The Green politician labeled the folk festival vital for social harmony. He pointed out that there are few places where so many people with diverse backgrounds and varying opinions gather. "Such places are essential; otherwise, a society can't function."
The Stoppelmarkt is one of Lower Saxony's oldest and most visited folk festivals. According to city data, about 800,000 guests flock to the festival area every year. Over 160,000 square meters of space is managed by more than 500 fairground operators, ensuring fun and entertainment for all.
After the bustling festivities, Chancellor Scholz might utilize his free time to explore the local Vechta attractions. The vibrant folk festival offers numerous activities that visitors can enjoy during their free time.
