Federal Chancellor - Scholz arrives in the flood area in Saxony-Anhalt
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) arrived in the flood area in southern Saxony-Anhalt on Thursday. Together with Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens) and Minister President Reiner Haseloff (CDU), he took stock of the situation in Oberröblingen, a district of Sangerhausen. Previously, Scholz, this time wearing rubber boots, had gained an overview from a helicopter.
This is Scholz's second on-site visit during the current flood situation. On New Year's Eve, he visited Verden on the Weser in Lower Saxony to find out about the situation there.
Scholz, Lemke and Haseloff inspected the dyke at the Helme bridge in the morning. The Helme, which flows through Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, drains the southern part of the Lower Harz.

- Steffi Lemke, a member of the Greens party, joined Olaf Scholz, the Federal Chancellor from the SPD, and Reiner Haseloff, the Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt (CDU), in their visit to the flood-affected area in Oberröblingen, Sangerhausen.
- Prior to their ground inspection, Scholz had obtained an aerial view of the flooded region in Oberröblingen, using a helicopter.
- The Federal Government, led by Chancellor Scholz, has been actively involved in addressing the emergency situation in Saxony-Anhalt, with resources and support being directed towards the flood-zones.
- Reiner Haseloff expressed his gratitude to the federal government for their assistance, as well as the quick response and support provided to the people of Saxony-Anhalt during the flood crisis.
- In the morning visit, Scholz, Lemke, and Haseloff assessed the condition of the dyke at the Helme bridge, which is a significant waterway that drains the southern region of the Lower Harz, passing through both Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
- Chancellor Scholz's second on-site visit, following his New Year's Eve tour of Verden on the Weser in Lower Saxony, aimed to gain a better understanding of the situation and coordinate the necessary relief efforts.
