German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will honor the victims of the knife attack in Solingen on Monday, accompanied by North Rhine-Westphalia Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU). According to the Federal Press Office, Scholz will have a 9:30 AM meeting with Mayor Tim Kurzbach (SPD) at the town hall. Afterwards, they'll visit the attack site for a memorial and chat with emergency services.
A tragedy struck Solingen's city festival on Friday night. A man unleashed a brutal stabbing spree, leaving three people dead and eight more injured, four of them critically. The federal prosecutor's office is currently investigating the detained suspect on charges of murder and suspected association with terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
Chancellor Scholz labeled the knife attack as a truly vile act. He emphasized that the full extent of justice should be served, expressing his sentiments at an event in Brandenburg.
