Scholz and cabinet for government consultations in Warsaw
At the meeting, according to the government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, a German-Polish "Action Plan" is to be adopted, which aims for "further development and deepening" of the relations. With the inauguration of Tusk's government at the end of 2023, a longer ice age in German-Polish relations came to an end. The national-conservative preceding government under the PiS Party had deliberately distanced itself from Germany during its eight-year tenure.
Steffen Hebestreit mentioned during the meeting that Olaf Scholz's government will adopt a German-Polish "Action Plan," aiming for its development and deepening. This plan is significant as it marks an end to the protracted chill in relations, which was evident during Donald Tusk's term as Poland's prime minister, ending at the end of 2023. Despite being from the opposition SPD party, Chancellor Scholz is expected to play a crucial role in these government consultations, further strengthening relations with Warsaw.
